A favorite destination for divers due to the quality of the dive sites, Rangiroa, or Ra’iroa (the big sky) is in one of the biggest lagoons in the world. There are two passes in the coral reef, Avatoru and Tiputa, both of which are teeming with an outstanding variety of sealife. Rangiroa has a very large tourist capacity and offers a vacation filled with magical and unforgettable experiences.

On the lagoon

The world famous atoll of Rangiroa is a mecca for divers, with a diversity of marine life that is truly spectacular: manta rays, dolphins, sharks, napoleonfish…etc.

The vast turquoise and blue lagoon has a multitude of small motu, including one with pink sand and another with its own natural bathing pool.

Rangiroa is also home to a flourishing pearl industry. Visitors are welcome to the pearl farms where they can learn some of the secrets of the beautiful tahitian pearl.

The atoll of Rangiroa is situated 350 km northeast of Tahiti and is a one hour flight from the capital. The airport is built on the main motu, Avatoru, and if you are staying on another motu, you should arrange to be collected on arrival, because there are no passenger ferries available. In Avatoru you can hire a taxi, or rent a car, motor scooter or bike.
