Getting to and around to Raiatea

Considered the birthplace of the Polynesian gods, Raiatea is home to countless important archeological treasures, including marae and petroglyphs, that tell the history of a unique, ancient civilization.

As well as having a fascinating history, Raiatea has many other treasures for you to discover in its mountains, valleys and magnificent lagoon. Less well-known internationally than Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora, it is a destination full of surprises, where you are sure to have an unforgettable vacation.

Getting around in Raiatea

The round island road is more than 50 miles long and you can rent a car at the airport or in the main town of Uturoa to explore Raiatea at your own rhythm. There are many taxis in the town and a reasonably reliable bus service with traditional Polynesian ‘trucks’. You can also hire bikes and e-bikes as well as motor scooters. Ferries leave for Taha’a several times a day and there are regular flights and ferries between Raiatea, Huahine and Bora Bora.

Faites un voyage dans le temps jusqu’aux débuts de la civilisation Ma’ohi , avec une visite de l’impressionnant Marae de Taputapuatea. La force sacrée de Mana est presque palpable dans ce magnifique site archéologique. Il existe de nombreux sentiers de randonnée à Raiatea, dont un menant au sommet du magnifique mont Temehani. Les plongeurs apprécieront descendre explorer l’épave du Nordby, qui a coulé en 1900, d’autant que cette plongée peut également être pratiquée de nuit.
