Village De Hakahau

A genuine village
The village of Hakahau lies in a bay sheltered from the wind, in the norteast corner of the island of Ua Pou. It is the administrative center and main town of the island and offers superb views over the hills and valleys. The sheltered bay has a quay where cruise ships can moor and cargo vessels like the "Aranui" can offload their merchandise, assuring the supply of goods and food to the Marquesas Islands. The village is very calm and typical of the islands in the north of the archipelago. There are several churches you can visit and craft shops where you can admire the wood-carving and stone sculpting skills of local craftsmen and women. The cultural and environmental federation of the Marquesas Islands, named "Motu Haka" is also in the village.
